༺ Pregnancy – Birth – Children ༻

Pregnancy

Many pregnant woman use CBD for a variety of reasons, some common reasons they use CBD include for nausea, cramping, insomnia, anxiety, stress and mood disorders, hormone-induced acne and managing discomfort and pain. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that suggests CBD is a valuable supplement during pregnancy.

That being said, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s does not recommend it, their website notes there is no comprehensive research studying the effects of CBD on the developing fetus, pregnant mother, or breastfed baby. There is some research that suggests that expectant mothers should avoid large amounts of THC (another cannabinoids found in cannabis – the ‘high’).

As we don’t have any reliable studies to prove or disprove the safety of this compound on the developing fetus, you are invited to do your own research and use your intuition with making decisions around this compound.

Birth

Notwithstanding the above comments about it not being recommended by the FDA, there is significant anecdotal evidence that CBD can be used successfully in labour.

While every experience is different, many women in early labour experience persistent lower back pain or abdominal pain and cramping which CBD can assist with. There are reports of women having CBD baths to relax the body before going to hospital, taking CBD oil to speed up contractions and using CBD cream to help reduce tearing. Many women have used CBD to induce labour, reduce pain and support lactation after birth. Historically cannabis has been used in different cultures for women in labour.

For breast feeding mothers, according to the FDA, it is likely that some amount of CBD will be transferred to babies through breast milk. There is insufficient data about this to establish the quantity or impact of this (positive or negative).

As with safety and efficacy in pregnancy, the research simply isn’t there and we recommend you feel into whether working with CBD during the birthing journey is for you.

Children

CBD has been used for children to assist with number of conditions – ADHD, anxiety, autism and epilepsy being some of the notable ones. In 2018, the FDA approved the first prescription CBD medicine Epidiolex for certain types of epilepsy including children.

Unlike pregnancy and labour, there is some research supporting these four conditions in particular in children (along with thousands of testimonials from parents).

In addition to the above four conditions, it is likely that the amazing range of beneficial properties CBD such as anti-inflammatory, pain relief etc. aren’t restricted to adults, but the research isn’t there in this area.

We have a Kids Peppermint 500mg which is formulated for little people and we believe our range of products are safe and effective for all ages. Our products are extremely high quality – the CBD is GMP and we use gentle, natural ingredients.
